Hospital Care Intensity Report

To help users access reports that compare specific providers, we have developed a "drill-down" strategy that uses an index to locate states, regions and hospitals according to their propensity to rely on the acute care hospital in managing chronic illness.

We call this metric the hospital care intensity index, or HCI. It reflects both the amount of time spent in hospital and the intensity of physician services delivered in the hospital. Chronically ill patients living in states and regions or using hospitals located near the top of the graph are likely to spend more days in the hospital and see more physicians during hospitalizations.

Step 1: Choose a state

Choose state from HCI thermometer
Choose up to 50 hospitals from list, then click "Generate Report" (if you would like to
select hospitals located in different regions or states, use this option)
